Why purchase this (2018) Smithsonian Edition 0 24K Gold Certificate?
This gold certificate is perfect for collectors who are interested in monetary history. In 1933, the US abandoned the gold standard. The following year, new certificates were issued for use by Federal Reserve Banks. The notes were never released for circulation, and many were destroyed when they went out of use in the 1960s. However, by partnering with the Smithsonian which currently housed the originals, ModernCoinMart is able to offer this replica certificate, which is officially licensed by the Smithsonian. It was struck from .1 g of .999 fine gold.
Powerful Ben Franklin Design
A portrait of Ben Franklin, one of America's best known and accomplished Founding Fathers, features at the center of the obverse. His last name is inscribed just below his portrait. To the left is the logo of the Smithsonian Institution, and to the right are inscriptions of the note's face value, "100," and metal content, "100 MG 24K GOLD." Spreading throughout the bottom of the note are inscriptions of the note's face value, "ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS IN GOLD," and "PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND AS AUTHORIZED BY LAW." Previous notes did not include the last four words of that inscription. "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed at the top, and the face value of the note, "100," is included in each corner.
Dominating the reverse is a vignette of Independence Hall, one of Philadelphia's most famous landmarks. "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed above it, and "ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS" is inscribed below. As on the obverse, the note's face value is noted in each of the corners in numeric form, "100."

The experts at Paper Money Grading (PMGC) certified that this note is in 70 condition. That means that the registration and margins appear centered to the naked eye and that the certificate shows no signs of handling that are visible under 5x magnification.

If the product has been altered, is not in its original coin capsule, or is otherwise in an unsaleable condition, the product will not be accepted for return or exchange. All documents and bonus items included with the product must also be returned. If the product is not returned with all original packaging and bonus items, is incomplete, or is returned after the 30-day return period, the Company reserves the right not to accept the return or to accept the return subject to a 20% restocking fee, in the Company's sole discretion. All returns with a purchase price over 0 must include a Return Authorization Number.
