DESCRIPTION: Good looking and performing hunting bow that is also suitable for recreational target shooting. This bow has no delamination; no cracks; limbs are straight. The tips are in good condition. There are no drilled holes or cracks; only minor chips, dings or scratches, stress lines or anomalies in the finish. There are a few cosmetic blemishes in the finish and a few minor scratches and nicks here and there and I tried to show you the worst of these in the photos. If you need more details or want to see other photos , contact me and ask and I will try to provide what you need. As you can see in the photos, the decal is in pretty good shape, and the leather arrow plate and shelf are in very good condition. Overall, this is a really nice vintage bow in better than average condition for its age. I have always preferred a #50 bow for hunting as it is strong enough for fast arrow flight and clean kills on deer and small game, yet it is a weight that is manageable for most men to shoot well if they put in a bit of regular practice shooting recreationally at targets.
I will include a usable string that can get you started, but you should replace it with a new one before too long, as it is old and has had considerable usage.
INTERESTING GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Cougar was one of the most popular and successful recurve bows ever made and it remains a very popular bow among traditional archery hunters to this day. The Ben Pearson bow model that lasted the longest time in production was the Cougar! It began in 1958 and lasted until 1977, and then returned for another run in the 1980s. From the beginning the Cougar was made right and left handed. Over the years it was made in lengths from 58 inches to 64 inches. The most popular length was probably the 62" because it is almost as smooth shooting as the longer version and is a good compromise for both hunting and recreational target shooting. Those who are primarily hunters often prefer the shorter versions in draw weights of 45 or 50 pounds or more, and the target shooters generally prefer the longer versions in lighter draw weights. Basically there was a Ben Pearson Cougar made to please almost anyone and everyone!
The Cougar 7050 was made in 25 to 66 lb draw weights when measured at 28 inches however, the bow is designed to work perfectly for Draw lengths from 26 to 30 in. The string brace height is best set from 7 1/4" to 8", the handle is made of solid imported hardwood and is a semi pistol grip. The limbs are full working recurve limbs and they are made of Brown Pearsonite fiberglass (a type of fiberglass trademarked by Ben Pearson Co.). The site window is cut to centershot and has a length of 6 1/2 inches.
